Folkestone Beach Huts

In 2020/2021 we were invited to paint 120 brand new beach huts in conjunction with Folkestone and Hythe District Council.  The council had assigned Artist Rana Begum to design a large-scale art project for the 2021 Triennial.  Her project named ‘1054 Arpeggio’, involved 120 beach huts in different colours in a geometric chevron pattern.

We painted a base colour followed by taping the triangles on each beach hut and painted each one a different colour representing the colour wheel. We used Teknos Futura Aqua paint manufactured in Finland, due to its high durability in harsh coastal environments.   It was our most interesting, challenging and accomplished project to date.

Due to Covid 19 the project was delayed and we did not get to start until the winter of 2020 so we were against the weather conditions and had to be very creative in order to complete the project by the Spring of 2021 ready for the Summer Triennial.
